"Twelve Essential Principles of Cognitive Science for Alienated Parents and Their Attorneys"

On Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 8 PM EST, Dr. Steven Miller will be our guest speaker for our international seminar support call. These calls are complimentary and are of no charge to anyone. On these calls, you receive much knowledge on the subject of alienation and much support for you is given as well. These calls are for both the alienated family members as well as the professionals who deal with alienation in some capacity. Please join us and invite others to attend. Please note there are NO replays.

In this presentation, Dr. Steven Miller, who is both a mental health clinician and a litigation consultant, will discuss a dozen basic principles of cognitive science that, in his experience, can be critical when litigating—or otherwise dealing with—a case of parental alienation. Some of these principles are well-known, though not always well-understood. Examples in this group include anchoring and confirmation bias. These are examples of cognitive biases, which is simply a fancy term for thinking errors. (In science, the term bias does not mean prejudice; it means error—so again, a cognitive bias is a thinking error.) Unfortunately, such errors are very common in cases of parental alienation. Other principles, though at least as critical, are relatively unknown, even to mental health professionals. Those, too, have fancy names (think: psychobabble) which we will not get into here. Suffice it to say that the concepts are easy to understand and easy to use in a wide variety of settings including interpersonal relationships, social interactions, therapy sessions, crisis intervention, parenting, interviews, depositions, and court.

This will be a bread-and-butter/nuts-and-bolts presentation with an emphasis on practical applications. The twelve topics have been carefully chosen to be particularly relevant to alienated parents, alienated grandparents, mental health  professionals, and family law attorneys. Among other things, the goal is to help participants make elegant use of simple concepts.

Dr. Miller has degrees in both Psychology and Medicine from Brown University and did residency training at Brown University and Harvard Medical School. For more than 30 years he was on the teaching faculty at Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine; in addition, he has many years of experience practicing Behavioral Medicine -- a specialty that focuses on the interface between medicine and psychology. That background is particularly relevant to child maltreatment, child protection, child alignment, parental alienation, pathological enmeshment, and related issues since those clinical conditions are very much related to behavior, including dysfunctional, pathological, and abusive behavior. Likewise, he has several decades of experience practicing Forensic Medicine. A popular speaker, he has directed several hundred continuing education courses for physicians and other clinicians and presented over one thousand lectures on clinical reasoning, clinical problem-solving, and clinical decision-making. An internationally-known expert on alienation and estrangement – and how to distinguish one from the other – he is also an experienced expert witness, litigation consultant, and trial strategist.

We have over 1,000 callers participating in these calls in 36 countries. Each caller may submit 1 question to Dr. Miller. The question MUST be in relation to the subject of this call. Deadline to submit your question is Tuesday, December 31, 2019. Deadline to register for this call is Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 5 PM EST. To submit your question and/or register for this call, please email familyaccessinnc@aol.com.

"10 Techniques for Managing the Alienation Emotional Roller-Coaster"

On Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 8 PM EST, we will begin something new for all alienated family members and professionals. We will begin a series of 6 calls in 2020 which will feature some professionals involved with alienation. They will present a 1 hour presentation with no Q & A time. Each person will present a very interesting topic. I do hope you can join these calls as I know they will be very informative and supportive for you.

Our first presenter will be Susan Heitler, Ph. D. She will be speaking on "10 Techniques for Managing the Alienation Emotional Roller Coaster".

Hostility and distance from a child plus an alienating parent’s selfish and hurtful behaviors can evoke overwhelming distress for alienated parents and grandparents.  Dealing with the legal system also can provoke both high levels of anxiety and anger and deep depressive reactions.

In this webinar clinical psychologist Susan Heitler, PhD, teaches ten rapid interventions for alleviating alienation-induced distress. Mental health and legal professionals can use them to alleviate alienated parents’ negative emotional states.  Targeted individuals also can use the techniques on their own, as self-help strategies.   An alienated parent’s suffering does not help their alienated child(ren). Better, after each set-back or provocation, to use these techniques for stepping off the emotional roller coaster, re-establishing relative emotional stability, and rediscovering a sense of well-being.

The techniques will include 1) Translating Projections to prevent personalizing 2) Using the Hand Map to understand and guide well-being, 3) Before and After Somatic Imaging 4) Best Possible Light, 5) That Was Then, This is Now, 6) Combatting depression with a 3-P’s visualization, 7) Combatting Anxiety with the List technique, 8) Converting Anger to Win-Win Problem-Solving (especially important for working with lawyers), 9) Self-administered acupoint tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Temporal Tapping, 10) Balancing alienation battles with life projects that are off the roller-coaster.
Ten techniques will be a lot to cover in one hour.  Participants can find free handouts and videos to reinforce their learning on Dr. Heitler’s prescriptionswithoutpills.com website.

Clinical psychologist Susan Heitler PhD has earned a national and international reputation as one of America’s leading psychologists.
Educated at Harvard and NYU, Dr. Heitler (pronounced Height-ler) specializes in treatment of emotional distress, marital difficulties, and parental alienation.  Her books and journal articles for therapists offer new treatments for anxiety, anger, depression, narcissism, and relationship challenges.
For the general public, Dr. Heitler writes psychologytoday.com blogposts that have received over 20 million views.  Nine or more of these posts address alienation.
In addition, Dr. Heitler’s books, podcasts, and her marriage communication skill-building and prescriptionswithoutpills websites offer self-help guidance for individuals and for couples.

MISSION  STATEMENT

Our main concern is the children and grandchildren and then the complete family.  Sadly the children and grandchildren who are alienated from family are being treated as pawns and property. They are neither. They are human beings. They should not be regarded as such by their parents or any other family member.  We contend that it should be illegal to use children as pawns or instruments of spiteful behavior in an effort to prevent them from interaction with ALL other family members.  Our purpose and goal is to ensure the preservation of extended, traditional family relationships. In the process of this hell on earth called alienation, we need all the knowledge and support we can get to help our children and grandchildren and then ourselves. To contact us, please email familyaccessinnc@aol.com.

GOALS

  • We will work in bringing awareness to people on the subject of alienation and the effects it has on both the children, grandchildren and their families. Alienation is abuse! We will have many of our top experts on alienation in the world sharing information on their own pages here to help you learn more on alienation and other topics regarding alienation. We are also expanding our web site with much more information including locations of support groups in your area, professionals in your area who do have knowledge of alienation as well as blogs by experts and testimonies from alienated family members.
  • To offer international seminar calls with guest speakers who have expertise in the subject matter for that call in giving support and knowledge to alienated family members and professionals who work in the field of alienation. Parental alienation and grandparent alienation and all other family members is hell on earth as too it is for the children and grandchildren dealing with this. These calls are a tremendous help to those going through this and those who work with those who are. Please join us.

HISTORY

In April 2012, Family Access- Fighting for Children's Rights was founded by Elaine Cobb who is also president. Elaine herself is alienated from her granddaughter Dare who she has never seen and is now 8 years old and her adult son Bryan who she has not seen since December 26, 2010. Her granddaughter Dare is alienated from her whole side of her daddy's family. This is why she determined to try in helping make a difference in this abuse being caused to the children, grandchildren and family members. In the beginning, her goal was to help those in the state of North Carolina where the founder  and president, Elaine Cobb resides. In just a short time, Elaine realized that alienation was a huge epidemic which was indeed all over our world. She realized at that time she wanted to do all that she could to help those suffering through this hell on earth. She started the international seminar calls nationwide. In less than a year, she took the calls on an international level. Now Family Access- Fighting for Children's Rights helps in supporting 36 countries in educating as many alienated family members and professionals in regards to alienation through our international seminar calls.

We also know one of the biggest ways to defeat alienation is to bring more awareness to those who know nothing or very little about alienation. This website was designed with that in mind as well as giving information to alienated family members to help them know all they can to get through this and one day hopefully be able to see their alienated loved ones. It is also here to help professionals i.e.., attorneys, mental health professionals, judges, legislators, school officials, researchers, writers, child advocates, etc. There is much to learn and we hope to give all as much as we can to help.

Laws must be changed as well to protect the rights of these alienated children and grandchildren to see ALL their family members. Family Access- Fighting for Children's Rights has worked tirelessly for equal shared parenting laws as well as grandparents' rights. We will continue in this fight for all the children and grandchildren in our world. Alienation is abuse!!!

Family Access- Fighting for Children's Rights is not responsible for any posts made here by anyone. This is a public web site which means anyone may view it.
